Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup milk (or non-dairy milk)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Step 1: Separate the onion slices into individual rings.
- Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Step 3: Gradually whisk in the milk until a smooth batter forms.
- Step 4: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Step 5: Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated, then carefully place it into the hot oil.
- Step 6: Fry the onion rings in batches for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Store leftover onion ring chips in an airtight container at room temperature, but know they're best enjoyed fresh.
- Reheat in a preheated air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for a few minutes to restore some crispness.
- Serve these crunchy delights with your favorite dipping sauce, like a zesty sriracha mayo or tangy BBQ sauce.
- For extra crispy chips, use ice-cold milk in the batter to inhibit gluten development and minimize oil absorption.
