Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound fresh mushrooms, such as cremini or button, sliced
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Step 1: In a shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Step 2: In another shallow dish, pour the milk.
- Step 3: Dredge each mushroom slice in the milk, then immediately coat it in the flour mixture, ensuring it's evenly covered.
- Step 4: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Step 5: Carefully place the coated mushroom slices into the hot oil in a single layer, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
- Step 6: Fry the mushrooms for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Store any leftover fried mushrooms in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- To reheat, spread the mushrooms in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes to regain some crispness.
- Serve these golden-brown delights as a savory side dish with steak or use them to elevate your next burger.
- For extra flavorful mushrooms, try adding a pinch of smoked paprika to the flour mixture before dredging.
