Delicious sour cream donuts recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: 2 1/2 cups
  • Granulated sugar: 3/4 cup
  • Baking powder: 2 1/2 teaspoons
  • Baking soda: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Ground nutmeg: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sour cream: 1 cup
  • Large egg: 1

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. Step 2: In a separate bowl, whisk together the sour cream and egg until smooth.
  3. Step 3: Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Step 4: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1/2-inch thick circle. Use a donut cutter to cut out donuts.
  5. Step 5: Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop the donuts into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  6. Step 6: Remove the donuts from the oil and place them on a wire rack to cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar or glaze as desired.

Notes

  • Store cooled donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, as they are best enjoyed fresh.
  • To revive day-old donuts, warm them briefly in a low oven or microwave for a few seconds.
  • Serve these tangy donuts with a simple lemon glaze to complement the sour cream flavor.
  • Don't overmix the dough; a slightly lumpy batter will result in tender, cake-like donuts.
