Ingredients
- Lasagna noodles (oven-ready): 1 box (16 oz)
- Ground beef: 1.5 lbs
- Italian sausage (sweet or hot): 0.5 lb
- Ricotta cheese: 15 oz
- Cream cheese: 8 oz, softened
- Parmesan cheese (grated): 1 cup
- Mozzarella cheese (shredded): 3 cups
- Marinara sauce: 2 jars (24 oz each)
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet, brown ground beef and Italian sausage over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease. Stir in one jar of marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, combine ricotta cheese, cream cheese, and half of the parmesan cheese. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Step 3: Spread a thin layer of remaining marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. Layer with lasagna noodles (overlapping if necessary), followed by half of the meat sauce, half of the ricotta mixture, and one cup of mozzarella cheese.
- Step 4: Repeat the layering process: noodles, remaining meat sauce, remaining ricotta mixture, and one cup of mozzarella cheese. Top with remaining lasagna noodles and the remaining mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese.
- Step 5: Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the lasagna is heated through.
- Step 6: Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the layers to set and prevents it from being too runny.
Notes
- Refrigerate leftover lasagna in an airtight container for up to 3 days to maintain its creamy texture.
- For best results, reheat individual slices in the microwave or bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) until warmed through.
- Serve this rich lasagna with a simple green salad and garlic bread to balance the flavors.
- To prevent a watery lasagna, ensure the ricotta cheese is well-drained and simmer the meat sauce until slightly thickened before layering.
