Ingredients
- Brussel sprouts, trimmed and halved: 1 pound
- Olive oil: 2 tablespoons
- Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper: 1/4 teaspoon
- Honey: 2 tablespoons
- Balsamic vinegar: 1 tablespoon
- Butter: 1 tablespoon
- Red pepper flakes: 1/4 teaspoon (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Toss the halved Brussel sprouts with olive oil, salt, and pepper on a baking sheet.
- Step 2: Roast the Brussel sprouts in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are tender and slightly browned, flipping halfway through.
- Step 3: While the Brussel sprouts are roasting, prepare the honey caramel sauce. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Step 4: Add the honey and balsamic vinegar to the melted butter. Bring the mixture to a simmer, and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until it thickens slightly.
- Step 5: Remove the roasted Brussel sprouts from the oven and transfer them to the saucepan with the honey caramel sauce. Toss to coat evenly. Add red pepper flakes if desired.
- Step 6: Serve immediately and enjoy the Honey Caramelized Brussel Sprouts!
Notes
- For best flavor, store any leftover sprouts in an airtight container in the refrigerator and enjoy within 2 days.
- To reheat, spread the sprouts on a baking sheet and warm in a 350°F oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until heated through, to help them crisp up again.
- These caramelized Brussel sprouts are fantastic served alongside roasted chicken or pork for a sweet and savory side dish.
- Don't overcrowd the baking sheet; give the Brussel sprouts room to breathe so they roast instead of steam, ensuring optimal caramelization.
