Ingredients
- Ground beef: 1 pound
- Lasagna noodles: 1 box (oven-ready preferred)
- Marinara sauce: 24 ounces
- Ricotta cheese: 15 ounces
- Mozzarella cheese: 16 ounces, shredded
- Parmesan cheese: 1/2 cup, grated
- Egg: 1 large
- Dried oregano: 1 teaspoon
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat. Drain any excess grease. Stir in the marinara sauce and oregano. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Step 2: In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
- Step 3: Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Step 4: Layer lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, then half of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers: meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese.
- Step 5: Top with remaining meat sauce and sprinkle with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Step 6: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly and the lasagna is heated through. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For easier slicing, let the lasagna cool for at least 20 minutes before serving – it will hold its shape better.
- Reheat individual slices in the microwave with a splash of water to keep the noodles from drying out.
- Store leftover lasagna in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days for best quality.
- Don't skip the simmering step for the meat sauce; it really allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.
