Ingredients
Scale
- 8 (6-inch) fajita-sized flour tortillas
- 1 can (21 ounces) apple pie filling, chopped into small pieces
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Optional: Caramel sauce or whipped cream for serving
Instructions
- Step 1: In a small, shallow bowl, combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon to create the coating mixture, and set aside. Place the chopped apple pie filling in a separate bowl.
- Step 2: Gently warm the tortillas slightly in the microwave (about 10-15 seconds) to make them pliable and prevent cracking when rolled. Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of the chopped apple filling onto one end of a tortilla, then roll it up tightly like a cigar. Repeat with remaining tortillas.
- Step 3: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Brush each rolled taquito with the melted butter, ensuring all sides are coated, then roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully dusted.
- Step 4: Place the taquitos seam-side down in the air fryer basket, ensuring they do not touch (work in batches if necessary). Air fry for 6 to 8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the tortillas are golden brown and crispy.
- Step 5: Carefully remove the Crispy Apple Pie Taquitos from the air fryer and let them cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm with an optional drizzle of caramel sauce or whipped cream.
Notes
- If your apple filling pieces seem large, be sure to chop them finely—smaller filling ensures an easier, tighter roll and prevents the tortillas from tearing or bursting during air frying.
- For maximum crunch recovery, reheat chilled taquitos in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3-4 minutes until warmed through and crisp.
- To maintain freshness and structure, store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days, knowing the texture will soften slightly after the first day.
- Elevate this dessert by serving the warm taquitos alongside a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a tangy sweet cream cheese dipping sauce instead of just caramel.
