Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 10 ounces marshmallows (about 40 large or 4 cups mini)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup milk chocolate chips, melted (for drizzle, optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray.
- Step 2: In a large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and cocoa powder and stir constantly until the marshmallows are completely melted and smooth.
- Step 3: Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
- Step 4: Add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture and gently fold until the cereal is evenly coated.
- Step 5: Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking pan and gently press it down evenly with a greased spatula or piece of wax paper.
- Step 6: If desired, drizzle melted milk chocolate chips over the top. Let the Rice Krispies treats cool completely before cutting into squares.
Notes
- Store cooled Rice Krispies treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain their chewy texture.
- If your treats get too hard, microwave individual squares for 5-10 seconds to soften them slightly.
- Serve these chocolatey squares with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a truly decadent dessert.
- For extra fudgy flavor, stir in an extra tablespoon of cocoa powder or a handful of chocolate chips after melting the marshmallows.
