Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup butter, salted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- Optional toppings: chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, sprinkles
Instructions
- Step 1: Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Remove the core using an apple corer or carefully slice around the core. Slice the apples into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
- Step 2: In a medium saucepan, combine heavy cream, granulated sugar, light corn syrup, butter, and salt.
- Step 3: Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved. Once dissolved, stop stirring and bring to a boil. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature.
- Step 4: Continue boiling until the mixture reaches 245°F (firm-ball stage). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Step 5: Dip each apple slice into the caramel, coating both sides completely. Place the caramel-covered apple slices on parchment paper.
- Step 6: Sprinkle with your favorite toppings (nuts, chocolate chips, sprinkles) while the caramel is still soft. Let cool and set completely before serving.
Notes
- Store leftover caramel apple slices in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep the caramel firm.
- Reheating is not recommended, but allow refrigerated slices to sit at room temperature briefly to soften the caramel slightly before enjoying.
- Serve these slices with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra decadent treat.
- For easier dipping, consider using two forks to fully coat each apple slice in the warm caramel.
