Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (12 ounces) chocolate sandwich cookies
- 1 (14 ounce) can cherry pie filling
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 1 cup fresh whipped cream (optional, for garnish)
- Maraschino cherries (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Step 1: Crush the chocolate sandwich cookies coarsely. You can do this in a food processor or by placing them in a zip-top bag and crushing with a rolling pin.
- Step 2: In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip.
- Step 3: In a trifle bowl or clear serving dish, layer half of the crushed cookies. Drizzle half of the cooled coffee over the cookies. Then, spread half of the whipped cream over the cookies. Top with half of the cherry pie filling.
- Step 4: Repeat layering with the remaining crushed cookies, coffee, whipped cream, and cherry pie filling.
- Step 5: Sprinkle the chopped semi-sweet chocolate over the top layer. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
- Step 6: Before serving, garnish with fresh whipped cream and maraschino cherries (optional).
Notes
- For best flavor, allow the trifle to chill overnight, as the flavors will deepen.
- Gently reheat any leftover trifle in the microwave for short bursts, checking frequently to prevent melting.
- Serve the Black Forest Trifle in individual glasses for a beautiful and elegant presentation at your Christmas gathering.
- To avoid overly soggy cookies, lightly brush the coffee onto the layers rather than pouring it directly.
